Just a quick housekeeping note. I recently made commenting on the blog available to everyone, even anonymous posters, having been alerted that certain accounts were unable to post with the limitations I’d had in place. I also decided to leave that pesky word verification function off (on a wait and see basis), because… it’s pesky.
I waited, and now I see the spammers increasing daily, causing me work in deleting several posts every few hours.
I hate to do it, but word verification is now in place.
Lori, I feel the same way…I hate having to keep word verification on, but without it the number of spam comments just gets ridiculous!
I sympathize–on one hand, you want everyone to be able to participate, but on the other hand, spam has really gotten out of control. I have word verification on my blog as well, and I'm sorry to have to do it, but there's too much noise otherwise!
So sorry, Lori. I know this is frustrating. I wish blogspot used the same Akismet spam control filter as WordPress – I rarely see any spam sneak through on my free WP site. Do they have something like that you can look into?
On the other hand, I know that people understand. It's just the way of things – sucks, but it is.
Hang in there – so much exciting stuff ahead for you!
Appreciate the commiseration! For a week or so it was one spam every other day, and my filter would catch it. Now it's several daily and they are starting to slip through.
I take it that WV IS up and running? It doesn't ask me to do it when I comment so I took it by faith that it's actually working. ๐
Yikes! At least your blog is seen. Mine has so little traffic that I've only had two spammers to slip by the blogspot spam filter…and that's without WV. I do hate it, but I understand. ; )
Seen by spammers at least! I wonder if that's mostly where my hit count comes from. ๐
