On Labor Day Brian and I took a day trip to the coast. By leaving at 3am we arrived at sunrise and got to experience one of my favorite things, sun rays streaming through the coastal forest. This time though I almost missed them. I was pressing on down the trail, intent on showing Brian a new overlook I’d found on a previous trip, when behind me I heard him say in an awestruck voice, “Look at that.”
I turned back to see this happening behind us:
Isn’t it all to easy to get so focused on a certain goal that we miss the unexpected and unplanned for blessings that God has waiting along the path? This was a good reminder to me to slow down and enjoy the journey–literally and figuratively.
Have a blessed weekend everyone!
That is an amazing photo! You must have been pretty deep in the forest. How exciting to be reminded of God’s light in this way. I would have had chill bumps! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Coralee! Chill bumps about covers it. 🙂 But surprisingly this wasn’t more than a stone’s throw from the coastal highway that runs the length of the state (you can almost see it in the direction I’m facing taking this shot). It doesn’t take long at all to really feel you are deep in the forest here, but in this spot it’s a narrow strip between the highway and, behind me another stone’s throw away, the Pacific Ocean crashing below the headland we were on.
Beautiful, Lori! Did you duck under that fallen tree trunk and just stand there amazed and washed in light?!
I stayed on the trail, which didn’t give me too many options for angles, but that undergrowth. It would have been too hard to wade through. It may not look like much but it was waist-deep at least!
